4th atelier ILM : homicide and injury cases from the Ḥaram collection

Law on tort and homicide cases was – and still widely is – considered as a theoretical aspect within Islamic law. Close analysis however shows how legal norms on blood-money determined the way Mamluk notaries issued legal documents in the field of homicide and injury cases.

In this atelier, we discuss some specimen from the Ḥaram al-Šarīf collection in order to analyze documents on subjective rights of victims and on the role of Mamluk authorities in crime-investigation.
